The CEBL title will be decided in a single game when the Winnipeg Sea Bears meet the Brampton Honey Badgers at Canada Life Centre on Saturday, August 15. What was supposed to be a series is now a straight championship fight, with the winner leaving as league champion.
Tip-off is set for 2:30 p.m. CDT, and there is no second chance after it begins. The Finals shifted to one game after an unexpected cancellation changed the format and removed the usual room for adjustment.
How the Finals Became a Single Game
The championship series was originally scheduled to start in Brampton on August 12. That plan collapsed when condensation formed on the court, making the floor unsafe for play.
After discussions with the teams, venue staff, and league officials, the game was canceled and tickets were refunded. The league then chose not to reschedule the opener, instead turning the second scheduled meeting into the only game that counts.
That decision leaves both clubs with just 40 minutes to settle the season. There is no recovery game, no series swing, and no time to correct an early mistake.
Winnipeg Gets the Comfort of Home
Winnipeg now holds the clearest advantage in the matchup because the decisive game will be played in its own building. Canada Life Centre has been one of the Sea Bears’ most reliable strengths, and the atmosphere could matter quickly if the game stays close.
The Sea Bears will look to feed off that support by pushing tempo early and forcing Brampton to respond under pressure. In a one-game championship, a fast start can shape everything.
Teddy Allen remains Winnipeg’s biggest scoring threat. He delivered a franchise-record 54 points against the Montréal Alliance in July and also became the fastest player in CEBL history to reach 1,500 career points.
Winnipeg also has Xavier Moon, a three-time CEBL MVP, to steady the offense. His playmaking gives the Sea Bears another way to attack if Brampton loads up against Allen.
Why Brampton Has Real Belief
The Honey Badgers are not walking into an unfamiliar or intimidating matchup. They already beat Winnipeg twice this season, including one win at Canada Life Centre.
Brampton opened the regular season with a 96–92 home victory in May, then returned to Winnipeg and won 88–86 on July 25. That second result stands out because it came in the same arena that will now host the championship.
Sean East II was the difference in that road win, scoring 38 points to help Brampton withstand Winnipeg’s late push. Allen scored 29 for the Sea Bears, and Moon added 28, but it was not enough to flip the result.
Those games show how narrow the margin is between the teams. They also give Brampton proof that it can win in this building when the pressure is highest.
What Will Decide the Championship
With the best-of-three format gone, the usual playoff rhythm has disappeared. Every possession now matters more, and neither side can rely on later games to fix bad stretches.
Winnipeg will need to protect the ball and avoid giving Brampton easy points. In the first meeting between the teams, the Honey Badgers turned 18 Sea Bears turnovers into 24 points, a gap that would be dangerous again in a winner-take-all game.
Brampton’s challenge is different but just as clear. It must limit Allen without allowing Moon or Winnipeg’s supporting scorers to take over. If the Honey Badgers can keep the Sea Bears from building rhythm, they will give themselves a strong chance to repeat their regular-season success.
The setup leaves no margin for patience. One hot scoring run, one cold quarter, or one careless turnover could decide the 2026 CEBL championship before the final buzzer sounds.
